Mrs. Nellie Carpenter
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Carpenter, 82, a long-time resident of Fresno o and Madera Counties, will be held at 11 AM Monday in the Lisle Calaveras Chapel.
Mrs. Carpenter, who had made her home the past three years with a daughter, Mrs. Viola Simmons of 904 West Vassar Avenue died Thursday in a local rest home.
she and her late husband Clinton Carpenter, came to the Bowles district in Fresno County from Wendling, Ore. in a covered wagon in 1908. In 1916 they moved to a Madera county ranch and then to Madera in 1926.
Mrs. Carpenter was a cafeteria manager in the Fresno and Madera City schools for 20 years until her retirement when she reached 70.. She was awarded a life membership in Fresno's Muir School Parent-Teacher Association.
She a native of Newton, Iowa.
Survivors include three sons, Wayne Carpenter of Parlier, Audre Carpenter of Selma and Carl LeRoy Carpenter of Riverdale; three daughters, Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Ethel Dayton of San Jose and Mrs. Virginia Rice, also of Fresno, five grandsons, five great grandsons and a great granddaughter.
Internment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery.
